The 1st Generation Daihatsu Charade was introduced in 1977. Daihatsu Charade is a front engined front wheel drive hatchback. Daihatsu Charade 1st Generation was available in 2 different body styles 3-door hatchback and 5-door hatchback. Production of the 1st Generation Daihatsu Charade was in between the years 1977 to 1983. The Japanese Manufacturer considers the Charade to be a “Large Compact” car in an attempt to differentiate it from other cars in Daihatsu lineup such as the Daihatsu Mira. The Daihatsu Charade was introduced to replace the Daihatsu Consorte and was an instant success in Japan having won the “Japan car of the year” award in 1979. The price of the Daihatsu Charade 1st Generation was fairly competitive when compared to other cars in the same class.

The exterior of the Daihatsu Charade features a fair box-like design. The front end houses circular headlights, a black rectangular grille and a black colored outward sticking bumper. The rear end houses rectangular taillights, a rear windscreen wiper, a black outward sticking black colored bumper and a standard case hatchback. The 5-door hatchback features an identical design language apart from being slightly longer in order to accommodate the rear doors. The overall exterior of the 1st Generation Daihatsu Charade features a fairly old and boxy design language that is familiar for a hatchback designed in the late seventies.

The interior of the Daihatsu Charade features the use of black plastic trim pieces. The front and rear seats are covered in fabric. The interior of the 1st Generation Daihatsu Charade features a decent amount of interior space in the front but a below par interior space in the rear particularly in the 3-door hatchback variant, it offers a below par level of comfort and interior refinement.
