Suzuki Mehran is a 5-door hatchback manufactured by Pak Suzuki Motors in Pakistan. It was introduced in the local market in 1989 as a successor to the classic Suzuki FX and became instantly popular. It has been a consumer favorite since then and has surpassed all other cars in units sold. Its affordability, durability, and high resale value have made it a desirable option. It is also a great option for those consumers who plan to switch from a two-wheeler to a car. Every Pakistani has owned a Mehran once in their life and a majority have Mehran as their first car.

A new Suzuki Mehran Euro-II model was introduced in 2012, with the only notable difference being the use of an electronic fuel injection system instead of the carburetor that was used until 2012. Despite lacking modern safety features, the Boss sells like hotcakes every year. It is considered hard cash in Pakistan due to its extremely high resale value. Even today, the 1989 Suzuki Mehran can be resold at a reasonable price in the Pakistani market.

Suzuki Mehran Exterior

The latest Suzuki Mehran has a rather box-like exterior design. On the front end of the Suzuki Mehran, it has trapezium-shaped headlights, a grille with rectangular-shaped openings on one side, and a sealed end on the other, along with standard black bumpers. On the rear end of the car, there is a pair of slightly angular square taillights and a standard hatchback along with a black bumper. The Boss is equipped with color-matched bumpers on the higher-end Mehran VXR versions. Suzuki Mehran's exterior design features a restrained, minimalistic style typical of a car designed in the 1980s.

Suzuki Mehran’s interior comprises the use of gray tone plastic trim pieces. The interior of the car is very minimalistic; nothing is hidden and everything is controlled manually, even the windows and seat adjustment controls. Basic features such as central locking, steering adjustment, and rear seat belts are missing from the Suzuki Mehran. The front and rear seats are both wrapped in vinyl. While the Boss comes standard with a heater, the higher-end VXR has air conditioning and fabric seats. The overall interior of the Suzuki Mehran features a lack of interior space in both the front and rear for a hatchback of its exterior dimensions, it also offers a lack of comfort and interior refinement.

Suzuki Mehran car comes with a 796cc 0.8 Liter OHC 6 Valve Inline-3 engine which generates a power of 39/5500 HP/RPM at a maximum torque of 59/3000 Nm/RPM. It has a top speed of 135 km/h and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 24 seconds.

The Suzuki Mehran car gives an average mileage of 10 KM/L in the city making for an estimated range of 300 KM from its 30-liter fuel tank and 13 KM/L on the highway making for an estimated range of 390 KM on a highway.

Although Suzuki Mehran is considered the cheapest car in the Pakistani motorcars market, it has several competitors. Some of its competitors include Daihatsu Cuore, Suzuki Alto, Suzuki FX, Nissan Otti, Daihatsu Mira, United Bravo, Prince Pearl, and other 660cc cars in Pakistan.

 

Suzuki Alto is a better option than Mehran as it offers more safety features, better build quality, and better mileage. It is a bit more expensive than the Mehran. Suzuki FX on the other hand is a cheaper option than the Mehran and but offers even fewer features. 

 

Daihatsu Cuore and Daihatsu Mira entered the Pakistani market and dominated Mehran instantly. With their better build, modern safety features, and appealing exterior, Mira and Cuore took over the local market. They are also affordable and durable due to which their demand is constantly increasing.
